Top 10 Ways to Go Green - and save money

10.) Save your family money and help conserve our planet by always shutting off the lights, the television, computer or stereo when you are not using them. Also, make sure to shut off the water when you are brushing your teeth.

9.) Recycle everything you can – this includes not only paper, plastic, aluminum cans and cardboard, but also other items like batteries and light bulbs. You might even be able to make a little money by recycling!

8.) When a light bulb needs replacing, ask mom or dad to purchase a compact fluorescent light bulb.

7.) Plant a tree, flowers, a vegetable garden, or perhaps even an herb garden. You can learn how to take care of a plant and enjoy the vegetables when they are ripe!

6.) Make sure you close the door and windows when you have the air conditioner or heater on to help save energy and money. Also, perhaps you can help mom or dad by checking the windows and doors to see if there is any air leaking out.

5.) Organize a supervised cleanup of your local beach, park, or even parking lot. Get your friends or classmates to join, along with parents and teachers too!

4.) Hold a bake sale, yard sale, or have a lemonade stand and donate some of the money you raised to a good cause such as saving the rainforest or saving an animal.

3.) Think creatively to reuse everything you can – this includes donating your old clothes to a homeless shelter or a relative, making candles out of old glass jars, or try composting.

2.) See if your school or family could organize a trip to go bird watching, see a National Park, a zoo, natural history museum, a planetarium, aquarium or even a recycling center.

1.) Learn everything you can about animals and nature by visiting your local library or school library, watching a television program on National Geographic or Discovery Channel, and read as much as you can.
